THE HALO EFFECT
Starting with the hidden dangers lurking in Victorian elegance you will discover how they surprisingly parallel the downfall of Blockbuster. This story explores the mysterious deaths in 1814 linked to a beautiful green wallpaper that concealed toxic arsenic fumes—drawing an unexpected connection to Blockbuster's failed partnership with Enron. Connecting them is the halo effect. The halo effect occurs when our overall impression of something or someone—often based on a single positive trait—overshadows other aspects, leading us to overlook potential flaws or dangers. This bias can cloud our judgment, making us assume that because one aspect is good, everything else must be too. In business, the halo effect can lead to critical errors, as it did with Blockbuster's partnership with Enron, where initial appeal masked significant risks.
